Mountain Van: Textures & Set Dressings

Van itself

The van model was provided by my Alma Mater, Savannah College of Art and Design, and was presented alongside the challenge of creating a complex texture map that included all of the different elements of the models in one texture set. In order to smoothly texture materials from rubber, to foggy glass, to rusted metal, to icy paint, a color ID map was assigned to the original van model before bringing it over to substance painter.

Environment

The mountain road environment was provided for me, however in order to achieve the look I desired, I changed out the textures. The snow and rocks are simple objects to begin with, so the largest texture adjustment was on the leaves of the pine trees. The branches of pie needles were modeled as cards, making it extremely easy to create bundles of pines with a light dusting of snow caught on each branch.

Extra Props

Some creative freedom was granted in this project in order to push the setting and story of the prop. The snow collected on the roof of the van, the storage rack, and the icicles were not part of the original model but added later. The racks and snow were simple box models, and the icicles were done in ZBrush to achieve a delicate, organic feel.
